Welcome!

While there are many factors that weigh into your decision to attend college, for many, a big aspect of the decision is whether it will be worth it in terms of future earnings and lifestyle.

Often, people lose sight of this and think that a college education is worth it no matter the cost. But that can leave a lot of students overburdened by student debt. That same mindset can cause students to think that all degrees and majors are equal and that their college education is an automatic job when they graduate – this is no longer true.

The good news is that you can get your education without being overburdened by student debt and you can decide on a major that will prepare you for a career that you enjoy.

Along the way, we’ll talk about success in school and beyond, including how to be happier and how to decide on and prepare for life after college. But I believe that the good stuff shouldn’t wait and so, if you’re ready to join me, we’ll dive into how to be happier and enjoy life Now (while in school) and Later (after you graduate).

I’ll be here to root you on and to share resources and information that can help you stay on track to graduate and lay the foundation for a great life after college.

A few key ideas that are part of that foundation:

  • Happiness, then Success – We tend to think that after we’re successful, we’ll be happy. But often happiness winds up always being put off (I’ll be happy after…). This is unfortunate because being happier can help us to be more creative, better problem solvers and better at connecting and collaborating – all things that can help us to be more successful. The challenge is that we’re not taught how to be happier, to protect ourselves, we’ve learned to be on the lookout for problems and dangers, and so that’s what we find and may conclude that there’s nothing to be happy about.
  • The World Needs YOU to Thrive! I know it might seem crazy to be focusing on happiness when there are so many problems in the World. But much like being happier helps us to be successful, being happier also helps us to help others, to participate more effectively in solving problems and to model thriving for others.
  • Graduate To Your Good Life – An often overlooked student debt issue is the large number of former students who are struggling to pay smaller amounts of student debt because they didn’t graduate and didn’t get the increased earning power of their degree or certificate. Thinking that everything will be great after graduation without planning appropriately won’t lead to the results that you’re dreaming of.

Level Up Your Money Know-How – Money is often an emotional, even stressful topic. We need money to survive in our society, BUT most of us haven’t been taught how to handle money. Imagine if we learned to drive by only observing drivers and no one gave us the rules of the road or helped us to practice safely. Would we be likely to get into an accident? Would we blame ourselves and say we’re just no good at this driving thing? That’s what tends to happen with money. We learn by making mistakes and sometimes we stop learning because we came to the conclusion that we’re ‘no good with money’ – it’s time to change that thought to I’m not experienced with money and it’s time to learn about money so you can reduce your stress AND create a better life for yourself and your family!
